HOT OFF THE PRESS: FOWLER Construction Awarded Major Highway Maintenance Contract in Sudbury East

Bracebridge, ON—We're pleased to share exciting news about a significant milestone for Bracebridge-based FOWLER Construction. Through a competitive tendering process led by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), FOWLER has been awarded a seven-year contract to maintain provincial highways in Sudbury East.

This is a proud achievement for our team, as FOWLER successfully competed against several large, foreign-owned multinational corporations that typically dominate this sector. The addition of the Sudbury East contract expands our highway maintenance operations, which already serve Simcoe County, Huntsville, Parry Sound, Muskoka and Haliburton, as well as North Bay regions—delivering essential services that prioritize safety, quality, and reliability for the driving public. It also supports our long-standing commitment to providing year-round employment opportunities.

Currently employing 850 people across the region, this new contract enables us to create an additional 65 jobs at FOWLER, including opportunities for skilled trades and apprenticeships. Moreover, our investment of approximately $10 million in new trucks and equipment—much of it involving local companies for installation and support—will generate further economic impact across the community.

FOWLER has a legacy in Ontario’s heavy construction and aggregate sectors and has proudly provided year-round road maintenance for more than seven and a half decades. We are honoured to deliver this critical service to the Province and municipalities where our employees, customers, and stakeholders live and work. Safe, well-maintained roads are central to our mission—and something we deeply believe in.

A thorough review of our capabilities and operational excellence helped us first secure the Huntsville Maintenance Contract in 2018, which was renewed in 2024. Since then, we've expanded into Simcoe County in 2021 and North Bay in 2022. With each milestone, we've made strategic investments in our people, technology, and equipment to build what we believe is a best-in-class operation. The Sudbury East contract marks the next step in our growth and deepens our long-term commitment to Ontario's road safety and infrastructure.

As always, our respect for the communities we serve includes a strong dedication to environmental responsibility in every aspect of our operations.

We’re thrilled to bring this good news to our employees, partners, and the broader community—and thank you for sharing in our pride.

Sincerely,

Geoffrey Stephens
Chief Executive Officer

SAFETY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY

As we gear up for another busy construction season, we kicked things off with a Construction Safety Day — a reminder that safety isn’t just a priority; it’s a mindset we all live by every day.

Safety remains at the heart of everything we do, and with another busy season ahead, it’s more important than ever to stay focused, work smart, and look out for one another. Here's to a strong, productive and, most importantly, safe season for everyone at FOWLER.

A big thank you to our event organizers, Health & Safety presenters, and our IT team for making this important kickoff event possible!

FOWLER REMEMBERS

On the National Day of Mourning, April 28th, we paused to honour and remember those who have lost their lives, been injured, or fallen ill due to workplace incidents and hazards.

We honour every worker whose life was changed or cut short by a workplace incident. We also acknowledge the profound impact on the families, friends, co-workers, and loved ones who carry the weight of these tragedies every day.

Let this day remind us of the importance of workplace safety and of our collective responsibility to ensure that every worker returns home safely.

YEARS OF SERVICE

A HUGE congratulations is in order for Don P. for 40 years of dedicated FOWLER service! We are so lucky to have such loyal and hardworking people on the team.

What a pleasure it is to give Don the recognition he deserves and to celebrate him with his team members. Way to go, Donnie!

CELEBRATING EARTH DAY

A HUGE thank you to all the amazing team members who rolled up their sleeves and helped clean up along Rosewarne Drive and the Kirk Line on Earth Day!

Many hands truly made light work - we tackled it all...and even found a TV (most creative find of the day, hands down!)!

Let's keep the momentum going—not just Earth Day, but every day!
