Whether we’re building and maintaining thousands of kilometres of highway, preparing underground for new subdivisions, repairing aging infrastructure to ensure safe and secure roads, preparing various specs of aggregate materials and hauling materials to various sites, we depend on our passionate, skilled, and safety-obsessed highway maintenance, construction, materials and trucking professionals to get the job done right.

Position Purpose:

The Materials Sales Representative is responsible for promoting and selling the company’s products and services. This role involves achieving business objectives by managing assigned territories and conducting on-site visits to customer locations. The individual will also focus on fostering long-term relationships with customers while consistently upholding the professional image of the company. Key qualities for success in this position include integrity, enthusiasm, and strong in-person presentation skills.

Key Duties:

  • Conduct and track daily sales presentations through on-site customer visits.

  • Deliver professional product/service demonstrations while engaging with clients in person.

  • Drive business growth by penetrating targeted accounts and expanding sales within existing client bases.

  • Proactively address and resolve customer concerns, ensuring a positive experience.

  • Highlight the key features and benefits of products/services, provide pricing quotes, discuss credit terms, and prepare sales orders and reports.

  • Build and nurture a network of referrals to generate new business opportunities.

  • Generate new customer accounts, including prospecting through cold-calling when necessary, to drive revenue.

  • Collaborate with Project Manager/Superintendent to ensure timely follow-ups, sharing leads with clear action items, deadlines, and complete customer information.

  • Represent the company with professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity, ensuring a positive brand image.

  • Efficiently manage and optimize your call schedule to effectively cover the assigned territory.

  • Leverage sales management software and marketing data to maximize sales productivity and effectiveness.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, including sales call reports, expense forms, billing invoices, and other essential records.

  • Contribute to the preparation of responses for Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from potential clients.

  • Conduct informational presentations, including seminars, trade show demonstrations, and other promotional activities as needed.

  • Assess and communicate market conditions to management to inform strategy.

  • Stay up-to-date on new product offerings and competitor activities.

  • Oversee the execution of material supply contracts and tender submissions.

  • Monitor and report on sales progress, aligning with production planning schedules.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of direct external sales experience.

  • Experience with aggregates or related industries is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of retail and/or wholesale sales techniques, methods, and best practices.

  • Skilled in identifying problems and resolving objections to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships.

  • Exceptional verbal communication, presentation, and active listening skills.

  • Strong written communication abilities.

  • Self-motivated with a high energy level and a positive, enthusiastic attitude.

  • Basic proficiency in mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • High integrity and a strong work ethic.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

Work Conditions:

  • Required to travel to various customer sites/locations.

  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to various weather conditions.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to meet business demands.
